Gary J. Cook 71 of Elkhart, passed away on January 7, 2016.
He was born August 6, 1944 in Elkhart to Bert L. and Zelma R. (James) Cook. He married Marcia J. Pixey on July 18, 1970 in Elkhart. She survives with a son, Steven J. Cook, daughter Renee (Curt) Wenger both of Elkhart; 2 grandchildren, Caitlyn and Tyler Wenger and a great-grandson, Mason; 1 twin brother, Jerry (Carolyn) Cook and 2 sisters, Nila (Lawrence) Young and Janice Bender all of Elkhart. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Irene Cook and brother-in-law, Dennis Wirt. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters, Geneva Cook, Mary Miller, Rita Wirt, Lillian Beehler and Lucille Clark and a brother, Dale Cook.
Gary graduated from Jimtown High School in 1962 and attended Ball State University. He served with the U.S. Army in Viet Nam where he received the Bronze Star. Gary retired from Collins and Company, formerly Burnstine’s where he worked in sales. He previously worked in the manufactured housing industry including Skyline Corp.
Gary was an active member of Jamestown United Methodist Church where he served on many committees and was an active member of the American Legion #307, Wakarusa. He also was a member of the Baugo Township Lions Club, Elkhart City Golf League and was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Elkhart.
Visitation for Gary will be from 2-7 pm Monday, Jan. 11th at Jamestown United Methodist and an hour prior to the service on Tuesday, Jan. 12th at 11 am at the Church. Pastor Steve Loft will officiate. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army.
