Gene R. Lowther, 75 of Elkhart, passed away July 29, 2014 at Golden Living Center.
He was born September 25, 1938 in St. Albins, WV to James Clayton and Eva (Curtis) Lowther. He married Mary M. Flynn on March 27, 1970 in Elkhart. She survives with 2 sons, Michael (Pam) Estes and James Estes both of Elkhart; 2 daughters, Donna Estes of Elkhart and Sheila (Steve) Lacy of Oklahoma City, OK; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son, Jack Estes and his parents.
Gene worked as a machinist for 31 years at Federal Paperboard Company and was a member of Heritage Free Will Baptist Church. He was an avid Cubs fan and anything West Virginia. Gene loved his grandkids and great-grandkids. He loved Mary dearly.
Visitation for Gene will be on Saturday, August 2nd from 4-6 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where services will be held at 6 pm. Burial will be at Prairie Street Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County or the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
