Gene Warfel

Gene Warfel, 80 of Elkhart passed away @12:26 pm April 13, 2012 at Greenleaf Health Campus. He was born July 9, 1931 in Elkhart to William W. and Anna R. (Kise) Warfel and married Patricia L. Kidder on June 15, 1958 in Elkhart. He is survived by his wife Pat Warfel, of Elkhart; 2 sons, Charles (Penny) Warfel of Grand Rapids, MI, Thomas Warfel of Las Vegas, NV and 2 grandsons David Warfel of Petaluma, CA and Christopher Warfel of Grand Rapids. Gene was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Robert, Warren, George and Ralph Warfel.

Gene graduated from Concord High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired as co-owner of Warfel Plumbing Co. in Elkhart for 40 years. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church; charter and life member of Elkhart Evening Optimist Club; Life member of the Elk’s Lodge; 50 year member of Kane Masonic Lodge #183; Scottish Rite, Valley of South Bend; Mizpah Shrine, Ft. Wayne and Elkhart Shrine Club. Gene enjoyed bowling and High school sports.

Visitation will be Monday from 3-7 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart where a Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7 pm. Services will be Tuesday at 11 am at the funeral home with Rev. Larry Kurtz officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery will military honors rendered by the U.S. Air Force and the Nappanee American Legion.

Memorials may be given to the Concord High School Athletic Scholarship Fund or the Charity of donors choice.
