George Albert Lee Bake, Sr., 87, of Elkhart, went home to be with God on April 1, 2016 at his home.
He was born Aug. 15, 1928 in Apex, Ohio to Bert and Mary (Kearny) Bake. He married Dorothy Emery on June 9, 1951. She survives along with 2 sons, James (Dixie Ray) Bake of Edwardsburg and George A.L. (Karen) Bake Jr., of Osceola; 4 grandchildren, Dennis Lee Bake, Jonathan James Bake, George A.L. Bake, III and Jennifer Spicher; 7 great-grandchildren and one expected in Sept. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gilbert E., James Edward, Samuel Joseph, John William Walter and sisters, Mary Rutledge and Pauline Knorr.
Mr. Bake was a world war II U.S. Navy veteran. He was also a charter member and life member of VFW Post 5087 in Antwerp, OH. He spent his working years for GTE, now Verizon. He loved cars, family, his pets and music.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 5th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday. Interment will follow at Olive East Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and DAV # 19.
Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
