George F. Datena

George F. Datena, 91 of Elkhart passed away July 15, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Feb. 28, 1921 in Frankfort, NY to Frank and Mary (Frank) Datena and married Violet L. Johnson on June 14, 1947 in Cooperstown, NY. She survives with 4 sons, Frank (Jenny) Datena, Steve (Tina) Datena, Tom (Diana) Datena, and John Datena all of Elkhart; a daughter, Gloria (Larry) Plotts of Elkhart; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, John (Betty) Datena of Indianapolis and Francis (Norma) Datena of Elkhart; 2 sisters, Rose Kovach of South Bend and Ann (Tom) Recchio of Frankfort, NY. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Miller, his parents and 3 sisters, Josephine Matthews, Nancy Orban and Donna Cory.

George was a retired general contractor having owned George Datena Construction Co. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Church and the I.A.R.A. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart where a vigil service will be at 7:30 pm. Burial will be at St. Vincents Cemetery at a later date where military honors will be rendered.
