Georgia VanGilder, 62, of Bristol, died September 1, 2010 at her home as the result of ovarian cancer.
She was born April 14, 1948 in Goshen to George and Florence (Hitzler) Gorsuch and married Rick VanGilder on May 28, 1976. He survives with 2 sisters, Jane Clanton of Bristol, and Christine (Rick) Henry of Eustis, FL; 2 brothers, George (Brenda) Gorsuch and Richard (Mona) Gorsuch both of Elkhart; A son, Rick (Christen) VanGilder of Cantonment, FL, a daughter, Jamie (Brent) Byers of Bartlesville, OK and 4 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Martha Henry and her son who died at birth 29 years ago.
Georgia graduated from Concord High School and worked as corporate controller for Crystal Valley Sales, Elkhart and was co-owner and a real estate broker of Burton Realty. She was a member of the Adamsville Road Church of God, Women of the Moose and a 27 year member of Al-anon. Her two favorite pastimes were gardening and taking care of small children, especially babies.
Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart, where services will be held on Tuesday at 11 am. Pastor Robert Meckley will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Bristol.
