Gerald D. Fawley

Gerald D. Fawley, 92, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday Oct. 9, at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation, Elkhart.

Gerald was born Mar. 12, 1924 in Elkhart to Walter and Leota (Parks) Fawley. On March 11, 1962 in Goshen he married Patricia G. Highland who survives along with a daughter Jill (Robert) Arnold of Indianapolis, a son Douglas G. Fawley of South Bend, a brother Leo P. (Gloria) Fawley of Goshen and 3 grandchildren; Maggie, Carl and Katie Jones. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers: Harold, Howard and Thomas.

Gerald graduated from Concord High School and served in the U.S. Army, 96th Infantry Division in WWII as a medic receiving a Purple Heat and Bronze Star for his service in Leyte and Okinawa.
He retired from Conrail as an Engineer after 45 years of service. He retired from the Concord Township Trustee’s office in May of 2004. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, lifetime member of United Transportation Union, lifetime member of VFW Post 88, member of Tyrian Lodge #12, Valley of South Bend Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine Ft. Wayne, Elkhart Shrine Club, Goshen OES 397 and Bristol American Legion #143.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 pm Wednesday Oct. 12 with a Masonic Service at 7:30 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where funeral services will be 11 am Thursday Oct. 13 with Rev. John Hogsett officiating. Inurnment will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery with Military honors by the U.S. Army and DAV #19.
