Germaine Rita Gaugler

Germaine Rita Gaugler, 85 of Elkhart passed away at Woodland Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 30,2023.  Germaine was born on June 12, 1938 in Elkhart, IN  to Gerard R. and Kathryne DeMeyer. She married Robert R. Gaulger on May 13, 1956 in Osceola, IN., he preceded her in death on March 20, 2010.

Germaine worked for over 48 years as a crossing guard for the Elkhart Schools. She worked at Meijer's  Department Store in Elkhart in the women’s department. She collected Barbie dolls. She was a member of Elkhart Life Church. Germaine loved to spend time with her friends and especially her family.

Germaine is survived by her children Cynthia (Joseph) Lewis of Goshen, IN., Terry (Robin) Gaugler of Elkhart, IN., and Douglas (Melissa) Gaugler of Elkhart, IN; daughter-in-law Debbie Gaugler of Danville, IL., 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Carol) DeMeyer of Edwardsburg, MI., sister, Carol Johnson of Bristol, IN., and her dog Tippy. Germaine was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Kathryne DeMeyer, sons Robert Gaugler, JR., Michael Gaugler and Dennis Lee Gaugler, siblings Paul DeMeyer, Sylvia (Calvin) Lott, Gerald Richard DeMeyer, JoAnn Willis and Emmaline Gause; brother-in-law Willie Johnson

Visitation will be from 10am- 12pm on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Elkhart Life Church, 1135 Middlebury Street, Elkhart, IN 46516 where funeral services will be at 12pm. Pastor Mark Johnson will officiate. Germaine will be laid to rest at a later date next to her husband, Robert at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, IN.
