Harold L. Leer

Harold L. Leer, 69 of Simonton Lake, passed away June 28, 2012 at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born Jan. 4, 1943 in Elkhart to Otto and Alta Mae (Stemm) Leer and married Janet C. Platz on Sept. 25, 1976. His wife Janet survives along with a daughter, Erin (David) Rumfelt and a son, Michael (Laurie) Prugh both of Elkhart; 6 grandchildren, Jackie Gove, Daina Shellenbarger, Drew Shellenbarger, Zack Prugh, Davin Rumfelt and Dain Rumfelt; 5 great-grandchildren and a sister, Sandra (Tom) Baylor of Elkhart and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Leer and a sister, Sharon Butcher.

Harold graduated from Elkhart High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and then attended the University of Hawaii. He was director of sales for Tom Naquin Co. in Elkhart then owned Harry’s Humidor also in Elkhart. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and a former member of the Elkhart Breakfast Optimist Club.

A memorial service will be at 11 am Monday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart where family and friends may gather an hour prior. Pastor Mike Fisher will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Marine Corps and the DAV #19 at the conclusion of the service.
