Helen E. Rice

Helen E. Rice, 88, of 27833 CR# 24, Elkhart, passed away at 7:00 am, April 15, 2009 at the Beardsley House, Elkhart.

She was born February 20, 1921 in Elkhart to Oliver and Della (DeNoyer) McClintic and married Max W. Rice on June 23, 1937 in South Bend. He died on February 21, 1995. Surviving are 2 sons, Roger L. Rice of Goshen and M. Lamar (Carolyn) Rice of Elkhart, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a brother, Maynard (Mary) McClintic of Elkhart and a sister, Arlene (Windy) Grass of Rochester, IN. A great-grandson, Brandon Mason and a sister, Irene Chaffee preceded in death.

Mrs. Rice retired as manager of the Elkhart Speedwash Laundry and was a member of the VFW# 985 Auxiliary, Goshen, Women of the Moose, Elkhart and a life member of the DAV# 19 Auxiliary, Elkhart.

Friends may call from 5-8 pm Friday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart and a half hour prior to the 10:30 am Saturday service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Disabled American Veterans, #19 Elkhart.
