Jack Harold Longacre, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Healthwin Specialized Care in South Bend. He was born on November 10, 1930 in Elkhart, IN to Harold and Gladys Longacre. He married JoAnne Theresa Moderau on June 11, 1955 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Elkhart. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 65 years, JoAnne, his former daughter-in-law, Barb (Roxy) Uthe, grandson, Jonas Longacre, his daughter-in-law Nancy Hiller and his sister Patricia Lavery.
Jack is survived by his large loving family, his four children, Mark Longacre, Gregg Longacre, Amy Shanahan (Patrick), and Dan Longacre (MaryKay); eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Jack honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, he attended Tri State College in Angola, IN. Jack worked as a mechanical engineer at NIBCO after moving back to Elkhart in 1966, until he retired. He and his wife lived in their home for over 50 years, on Laurel Street, a home filled with pictures of all the ancestors, children, and grandchildren. He and his wife were members at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Jack was very involved at Osolo Little League coaching and eventually serving as President for several years. He also loved woodworking and made his children and grandchildren many wonderful pieces of furniture and toys to be treasured always.
He was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, and father-in-law, he will be missed. We have all been blessed to know and love him.
He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, IN. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd. Elkhart, IN 46514 is assisting the Longacre family.
