James E. Bond Jr.

James E. Bond Jr., 87 of Elkhart, passed away August 11, 2008 at Hubbard Hill Estates.

He was born November 17, 1920 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to James E. and Winifred (Ellingham) Bond and married Rosemary Kryder on July 26, 1947 in Ft. Wayne. She survives with a daughter, Carolynn (George Williams) Bond of Ft. Collins, CO; a son, Richard E. (Elizabeth) Bond of Elkhart and 3 grandchildren.

Mr. Bond retired in 1975 as a distributor for Amoco Oil Company in Elkhart. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and trustee. He was a former member of Elcona C.C.; Elk's Lodge; the Junta Club and Rotary Club. He was a red coat at Elkhart General Hospital and delivered meals on wheels. He loved all sports, especially tennis, which he was very good at. He was a bridge enthusiast and played a couple of times a week and was an avid reader. After his retirement, he served as business manager for the First Presbyterian Church for 5 years.

He graduated from Ft. Wayne Central HS, and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta at Wabash College before he enlisted in the U.S. Army and received the purple heart and bronze star in world war II. He earned his degree in business from Indiana University in 1947 after his return from the war.

A memorial service will be at 4:00 pm Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at the 1st Presbyterian Church chapel. Reverend Stephen Braden will officiate. cremation has taken place and burial will be at Lindenwood Cemetery, Ft. Wayne at a later date.

Memorials may be given to Elkhart Public Library Building Fund, Church Community Services, or First Presbyterian Church.
