James T. Piechowiak, 71, of Elkhart passed away Wednesday evening, June 1st, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born May 12, 1945 in South Bend to Frank A. and Letitia Hezler) Piechowiak. He married Theresa K. Kalil on Oct. 14, 1967 in Elkhart. She survives with 2 daughters, Lisa (Keith) Baker of Granger and Denise (Paul) Bassett of Waunakee, WI; 4 grandchildren, Kylie, Ryan, Landon and Lydia and a sister, Joan Evans of South Bend. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank A. Piechowiak Jr. and his parents.
Jim earned his B.S. degree from I.U.S.B. and served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was an operations manager for several companies, most recently for Genesis Distribution Company in Elkhart.
He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, was on the board of the Pebblestone Homeowners Association, and was a past member of Bent Oak. He was a sports enthusiast including golfing, an avid I.U. fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Visitation for Jim will be Sunday, June 5th from 2-6 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be recited at 5:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 6th at 11 am at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church where friends may also visit from 10 am to 11 am in Vincent Hall. Interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery.
