Janet L Gaines,76 of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018 at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born March 14, 1941 in Winchester, TN to Arthur M. and Claudia (Gipson) Kelley. She is survived by 2 daughters, Cynthia (Eric) Buckmaster and LaJeana Peli both of Elkhart and a son, Carl Gaines of Wolcottville, IN; 9 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, 1 sister, Mary Louise Anderson of Decherd, TN and 3 brothers, Thomas Kelley of Winchester, TN, and Roy and Gordon Kelley both of Decherd, TN. She was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Helen Smith, Frankie Aline Reed, Murvine Jernigan and Sally Turner and 5 brothers, Vergil, Joe, Glenn, Rodger, and Murrell Kelley.
Janet retired in 2004 as Supply Coordinator for Elkhart General Hospital where she had been employed since 1979. She attended Riverview Baptist Church and was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #73, Elkhart and enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm Friday, March 2nd and 11-1 pm Saturday March 3rd at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where her service will be held at 1 pm Saturday. Pastor Rick Pirtle will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Center for Hospice Care or American Heart Association.
