Dr. Parmer passed away on the afternoon of January 26, 2016 at the Dayton, Ohio VA Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was 90 years old.
Norman was born in Elkhart, Indiana on November 23, 1925, the only child of Jess Noah Parmer and Zayda Irene Tressler.
He married his high school sweetheart Bessie Norma Peterson on September 12, 1948. He studied history in college and went on to earn his PhD from Cornell University. He was the first Peace Corps Director in Malaysia, he was an Associate Dean at Ohio University and served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Trinity University in San Antonio.
He is survived by a daughter Sarah & Tom Pecor; a son Tom & Elizabeth Parmer; six grandchildren- Keith Kivi, Courtney Parmer and Christine Parmer, Ryan Pecor, Jaime Pecor and Emily Pecor; and two great grandchildren Hannah and Lindsay Kivi.
The family will have a graveside service and interment 2pm Saturday at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, IN. A memorial service will be held February 13 at 11am at Christ Lutheran Church Athens, OH conducted by Rev. Lynn Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, Athens, Ohio.
