Jimmy Joel Turns, 81, of Elkhart, passed away on March 14, 2018 at Greenleaf Living Center. He was born on September 4, 1936 in Adairville, KY to James Grady and Beatrice Louise (Majors) Turns. He married Nancy Sue Wantland on June 8, 1953.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Sue, of Elkhart; his son, Billy Joe (Cindy) Turns, of Granger, IN; his daughter, Debbie Sue (George) Collins, of Castalia, OH; his grandchildren, Reese Joel (Victoria) and Alex Edward Turns, and Anne Nicole Lillis; and his great-grandchildren, Josephine Eleanor and Charles James Turns. He was preceded in death by a grandson, James Erik Turns; 3 brothers, James B., George Robert and Billy Jewell Turns; and a sister, Dorothy Jean Dunaway.
Mr. Turns owned Turns IGA in Bristol, which is now Pay’n Pakit Discount Foods.
Friends may visit with the family from 5-7 PM on Tuesday March 20, 2018 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the 2 PM Wednesday Funeral Service at the funeral home. Pastor Keith McFarren of Bethel United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Oakridge Cemetery in Bristol.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to ADEC of Elkhart County.
