Joan C. Beers, 79, of Elkhart, died November 22, 2010 at 3:59 am at Our Lady of Peace Hospital, Mishawaka. She was born July 3, 1931 in Elkhart to the late Paul L. and Ruby (Bashor) Freed. On November 27, 1952, she married Robert J. “Bob” Beers in Elkhart.
Her husband survives along with 3 sons Ronald Beers of Denver, PA, Pastor Thomas (Debbie) Beers of Columbia City, and Larry (Deb) Beers of Elkhart; 9 grandchildren Brandon Frisby, JoyAnna (Ryan) Traficanto, Amy Beers, BethAnne Beers, Ben Beers, Brittney Beers, Stephen Beers, Chelsea Beers, and McKenzie Beers; 1 great-grandchild Beck Beers; a sister Nancy Wibert of Elkhart; a brother Paul Freed Jr. of Sarasota, Fla. and 2 step-brothers Jim (Pat) Linn of Elkhart, and Skip (Norma) Linn of Florida. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers Robert and Bill Freed.
Joan worked at CTS in her earlier years and enjoyed being an artist. She was a charter member of Northside Church of the Nazarene where she was a children’s Sunday school and preschool teacher.
Friends may visit the family from 4 to 8 pm Friday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart and one hour prior to the funeral service at 11 am Saturday at the Northside Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Lane Fosnaugh and her son, Pastor Thomas Beers will officiate. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.
