Joan U. Stump, 92, of Elkhart, passed away Friday Aug. 12, 2016 at home.
She was born Aug. 9, 1924 in Nappanee to Kenton and Madge (Ulery) Mellinger. On Oct.13, 1946 she married Marvin S. Stump who preceded her in death on June 23, 2015. Surviving are a daughter Marla (Donald) Riendeau and a son Brian Stump both of Elkhart, 2 granddaughters, Mindy Zollinger and Toni Lineberry and a great grandson Nathaniel Lineberry and a brother, Joel Mellinger of Syracuse. She was preceded in death by brothers, John, Jim and Bob and sisters, Betty and Marietta.
Joan graduated from Nappanee High School in 1942 and worked for C.G. Conn as a welder then worked for 35 years at C.T.S. Corp. as a machine operator. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Women of the Moose, Four Lakes Country Club Tuesday Ladies 9 hole league, and bowled in various leagues at Oakland Lanes. She enjoyed spending winters with her husband for the last 30 years at Sundance Mobile Village in Zephyrhills, FL.
Visitation for Joan will be from 4-7 pm Tuesday, Aug. 16th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. A procession will leave the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 17th at 9:30am for entombment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
