John W. Berden

John W. Berden, 79 of Elkhart, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 28, 2018 at the Elkhart Hospice House.

He was born September 7, 1938 in Sandusky, Mich. To James G. and Gertrude G. (Moffatt) Berden. He married Myrna J. Yoder on Jan. 25, 1959 in Hillsdale, Mich. She died on November 4, 2009. Surviving are 3 sons, Glenn (Mekia) Berden of Elkhart, Lee (Joanne) Berden of Castro Valley, CA and Tracy (Terri) Berden of Lafayette, IN and a daughter, Rosemary (Mark) Corpe of Elkhart, 7 grandchildren, Brandi, Anthony, Christa, Dawn, Catlin, Olivia and Makayla and 2 great-grandchildren, Isabella and Courtney and a special friend Pat VanLue of Mishawaka. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judith Hurd.

John graduated from High School, attended Bethel College and served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Damon Industries after 17 years of service in Research and Development. He was an ordained minister in the Free Methodist Church and a Deacon. John enjoyed collecting, fishing and westerns.

Family and friends may visit from 6-8 pm Thursday, May 31st at the Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where his funeral service will be held at 1 pm Friday, June 1st. Pastor Steve Newkirk will officiate. Burial will follow at Little Pine Cemetery, Goshen with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and the Goshen Veterans Honor Guard.
