John Kiogima

March 22, 1948 — January 2, 2015

John “Indian John” Kiogima, 66 of Union, MI, walked on Jan. 2, 2015 at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born March 22, 1948 in Harbor Springs, MI to Augustine and Katherine (King) Kiogima.

Surviving is a daughter, Becky Kiogima of Union, MI; a son, Rodney (Amber) Kiogima of Fisher, IL; 3 grandchildren and 2 brothers, Bob (Betty) Kiogima of Proctorville, OH, Duane Kiogima of Indian River, MI and a half sister, Barb. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Auggie, Ray, Leon and Frank and a sister, Mary Ann.

John was a heavy equipment operator for Niblock Excavating Company for many years. He was keeper of the fire for Zimmy’s; a longtime member of Cass County Conservation Club, where he held several offices; member of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians. He enjoyed the outdoors and camping and spending time with his grandchildren.

A Celebration of John’s life will be from 12-4 pm Saturday, Jan. 17th at the Cass County Conservation Club, Union, Mich.

The family would like to give a special thanks and appreciation to Carol Kauffman and Fran Yeager for their love, friendship and care in John’s last days.

Memorials may be given to the Cass County Conservation Club.
