Joseph B. Buhler, 94, of Elkhart, died at 12:28 am on July 26, 2010 at Greenleaf Living Center. He was born January 29, 1916 in Marion, IN to the late Earl and Eva (Parker) Buhler. On June 24, 1939, he married Leone E. Kimes in Elkhart. She died May 21, 2009. He is survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Maxine (Kimes) Smith, and 18 nieces and nephews.

He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps., serving as military police in WWII.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart where funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 am. Pastor John Blodgett will officiate. Burial will follow in Rice Cemetery with military honors rendered by the US Army and DAV #19.

Having no children of their own, Joe and Leone wrapped their loving arms around their many nieces and nephews, showering them all with love and happiness, lots of homemade special candies and Christmas gifts. To anyone who knew Joe, you would have heard some tremendous stories of his life. Of his work in the tool room at the Bendix Corp. and playing in the country band at Coney Island in Elkhart; singing at the radio station WTRC, on the top floor of Hotel Elkhart.

Joe retired from the Bendix Corp. on June 30, 1978. Joe and Leone were members of Elkhart’s First Baptist Church. They both had faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and were baptized at the church. Joe and Leone had the gift of eternal life.
