Joseph J. Shreiner Jr., 86, of Elkhart, passed away January 28, 2009 at 8:44 pm at his home.
He was born February 4, 1922 in Elkhart to Joseph J. and Orpah (Hausmann) Shreiner and married D. Helen Willis on February 14, 1942. She survives with 4 daughters, Becky (Gary) Thompson of Elkhart, Karen (Bob) Martin of Goshen, Laura (Randy) Weaver of Selbyville, DE, and Jo (Kevin) Fulmer of Middlebury, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. An infant son, and a sister, E. Justine Andresen preceded in death.
Mr. Shreiner was in recreational vehicle sales, management and ownership for various companies. He was a member of the American Legion # 210 Middlebury and the National Rifle Association. He drove and owned a stock car, was a NASCAR fan and operated remote control planes and cars. He also enjoyed fishing. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot in World War II and Korea.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Sunday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where services will be at 11 AM Monday. Pastor John McFarland of Little Pine Church of the Brethren will officiate. Entombment will follow at Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, Rice Cemetery.
Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion #210, Middlebury following services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Goshen Care at Home Services or American Cancer Society.
