Joy Ann Dyer 87, of Elkhart, passed away at 4:54 a.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Elkhart General Hospital. She had been a resident of Hubbard Hill Retirement Center in Elkhart, Indiana since February 2006. Prior to her move to Hubbard Hill, she had been a resident of Madison, Indiana for fifty-two years.
Joy was born March 23, 1927 in Logan, West Virginia to George and Wilma Frye. She attended school at Logan County Schools in West Virginia. On August 17, 1946 she married Homer Dyer in Logan, West Virginia where they resided until October of 1954 when they relocated to Madison, Indiana.
Survivors include her son George (Shirley) Dyer of Elkhart; grandchildren Shane (Kari) Dyer of Elkhart, Jenny (Doug) McGee of Beijing, China; Great Grandchildren Karisa Dyer of Elkhart, Eli, Enoch and Eva McGee of Beijing, China; and one brother Paul (Pam) Ross Frye of Aiken, South Carolina.Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, five brothers, Bernard Frye, Charles Frye, George Frye Jr., Donald Frye, and John Frye; five sisters, Geneva Frye Gleason, Helena Frye Porter, Audrey Frye Whitt, Doris Frye Kosko and Joan Frye.
Joy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to sew, quilt, fish and garden. She worked for several years for the City of Madison as the Deputy City Clerk. She retired in 1987 with her husband and traveled around the country. They enjoyed their travel together until his untimely death in 1991.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. Celebration of Life memorial service Wednesday, December 31 in the Chapel at Hubbard Hill Retirement Community, 28070 C.R. 24 West in Elkhart, with Chaplain Dave Severance officiating. The burial will be at a later date.
