Joyce Ona Shultz, 75, of Elkhart, passed away in peace and in God’s graces on June 25th at The Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart, surrounded by her loving husband and family, after trying very hard to recover from brain surgery and cancer.

Joyce was born into this world February 12, 1941, in Elkhart, Indiana, the daughter of the late Robert and Lucille Pearson.

Joyce was a graduate of Elkhart High School Class of 1959. She married Thomas L. Shultz on September 1, 1961. Joyce and Tom worked side by side as a team, in both business and life, they founded and owned Shultz Appraisal Services and ASL Testing in Elkhart.

Joyce will be remembered most as a caring loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Joyce loved her home always keeping it organized, exceptionally clean and always prepared to offer a wonderful meal to her loving family and friends. She also liked working in her yard and was particular about her flowers. Always unselfish, generous, patient, and kind. Joyce always put others ahead of herself, and she especially loved her grandchildren. Shopping with her grandchildren was one of the greatest thrills and pleasures to Joyce. She would always play cards and games, do arts and crafts, play with them in the pool and furnish help and inspiration to her grandchildren it was always about them and others. She was the strength and the true matriarch of our family.

Left to cherish her memories for ever are her loving husband of 55 years Tom and her three daughters: Tena (Rudy) Echeverria of Fishers, Kathie (Bob) Dorsam of Elkhart, and Teresa (Matt) Shultz-Miller of Elkhart. Her grandchildren: Patrick (Valerie) Echeverria of Zionsville, Alex Echeverria, Alysa Miller, Ryan Echeverria, Colin Dorsam, Madelynn Miller, Kylie Dorsam, and Adam Miller; and her great grandchildren: Makenzie and Addison Echeverria. She also leaves behind a sister, Marilyn Darr-Scott, and Brother-in-law, Bob (Pam) Shultz, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends may gather at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd in Elkhart, from 4-7 pm on Tuesday June 28th for visitation. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday June 29th at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2715 East Jackson Blvd in Elkhart. There will be an hour visitation prior to service.
