Joyce M. Stemm

Joyce M. Stemm, 82, of Elkhart, died at 9:45 am January 2, 2010 at Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born August 17, 1927 in Mishawaka, IN to Edson and LaVon (Ives) Kurtz and married Robert E. Stemm on November 15, 1947 in Mishawaka. He died February 12, 2003. Surviving are a son Bob (Sue) Stemm of Goshen; 2 daughters, Sharon (Tom) Marchese of Elkhart and Jill (Paul) Augspurger of Huntington, IN; 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and a sister, Colleen (Richard) Earnhart of Plant City, FL. 2 sisters, Velma McHenry and Jean Simms and a brother, Edson “Bud” Kurtz preceded in death.

Mrs. Stemm graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1946 and was a member of the Mishawaka High School Alumni Association. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and enjoyed vacationing in Florida and being with family, grandchildren and her granddog “Maggie”.

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Monday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd. Elkhart and an hour prior to the 11 am funeral service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Reverend Laurence Smith of Calvary United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.
