It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Judith Ann (Fawley) Stickel, after a long illness.
Born on May 8, 1943 in Elkhart, Ind. to Inabelle (Secor) and Howard Fawley, Judy lived all her life in the greater South Bend area. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Indiana University in 1965 and a master’s in public health from Ball State University in 1987. Judy worked as a school nurse at the School City of Mishawaka, Ind., and in other pediatric practices.
Judy married Dale Stickel on Sept. 2, 1967 at the Jamestown United Methodist Church in Elkhart County, Ind. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage together. She was mother to three children, Andy (Laura Maniccia), Amy (Derek) Dattner, and Tom (Kristin Wenger). She was grandmother to Katherine and Elizabeth Dattner, Mason Stickel, Henry, Sam and Phoebe Wenger-Stickel, and Efua Crentsil. Along with her children and grandchildren, Judy is survived by brothers David (Ruth) Fawley, and William “Bill” Fawley, sister-in-law Nancy Fawley, as well as a large extended family she remained close to throughout her life.Judy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Jerome Fawley and sister Carol Fawley.
Judy was an active congregant of Faith United Methodist Church in Goshen, Ind., and performed many mission trips to Kentucky and Haiti. An avid walker, Judy was a long-time participant in the CROP walk to fight global hunger, winning the Golden Sneaker award for top fundraiser in the county.Judy was an ardent fan of the Chicago Cubs, and a season ticket holder for Notre Dame women’s basketball. In addition, she was a regular fixture at Jimtown sports events. She always made her home a welcoming place. Whether it was a large family gathering or a spontaneous get-together for her children and their friends, Judy delighted in making sure everyone had a good time.
Visitation will be at Stemm-Lawson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 from 4-7 pm on Friday, January 20th. A memorial service will take place at Faith United Methodist, 22045 CR 18, Goshen, IN 46528 at 10 am on Saturday, January 21th, preceded by a Visitation at 9 am also at the church.
