Judith Wesdorp 67, of Elkhart died peacefully surrounded by her family on November 7th. She was born on April 15, 1947 in Goshen to Jay and Shirley Essig. She is survived by her husband Henri Wesdorp, daughter Sara (Justin) Granberg of Middlebury, son Andy (Courtney) Wesdorp of Elkhart, daughter Alyssa (Gabriel) Medina of Chicago, 6 grandchildren, Sage, Colt, and Tate Granberg, Keller and Delaney Wesdorp, and Cecilia Medina. Also surviving is a sister Nancy Hamlett of Mill Valley, California and a brother Martin Essig of Goshen.
Judi graduated from Purdue University with degrees in Nursing and Sociology. She worked in the ICU at Elkhart General Hospital early in her career until starting her own business, Michiana Medex from which she retired in 2008.
Judi was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 35 years. She was an avid 4-H member in her youth, nurtured her children through 4-H and has served on the 4-H Fair Board for the past 20 years. Her cherished moments included gardening, reading, lunch with her friends and especially caring for and loving her children and grandchildren.
She was known for her beautiful smile and positive outlook on life. She started each day with a smile and by reciting Psalms 118:24 "This is the day The Lord has created, I shall rejoice and be glad in it."
A private service for her was held on Sunday, November 9th. A "Celebration of Her Life" will be held on Saturday, November 22nd from 2 to 5 P.M. at Trinity United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County (www.elkhartcancer.org).
