Karen K. Garl Grise, 55, of Elkhart was found deceased at home on Oct. 4, 2012 of natural causes. She was born April 14, 1957 in Elkhart to Max C. and E. Virginia Garl and married Jack E. Grise in the late 1980’s. She is survived by her twin sister, Kathy (Bob) Burris and her only niece, Laura J. (Tim) Parsons. She was preceded in death by her parents Max, in June of 2009 and E. Virginia, in May of 1989, and an infant daughter, Cassandra Atchley.
In her younger years, she worked at G&L Land Surveying. She had been a volunteer for Harvest Basket and was awarded “Volunteer of the Year” at one time. She attended Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. Karen graduated from Elkhart Central High School in 1975. She was one of 6 pairs of twins to graduate that year which was a novelty and was featured on the front page of the Elkhart Truth.
Her family wishes to thank her home health care nurse Dana, who was a treasured friend, and the library employees who provided her with books through the “Homebound Program”. Karen had been in declining health for many years.
