Katherine (Kathy) Elaine Geljack, 75, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022 at North Woods Village in Mishawaka, IN after suffering from Alzheimer’s for many years. Kathy was a long term resident of Elkhart Indiana. She was born in Superior, Wisconsin February 10, 1947 to Oliver and Dorothy Laurila.
Kathy is survived by her husband of 55 years Kenneth Geljack Sr., her daughter Kristine (Geljack) Wilder of Bend, Oregon, her son Kenneth Geljack Jr. of Elkhart, her granddaughter Elizabeth (Geljack) Easto of Valparaiso, IN., her grandson Kenneth Geljack III of Berrien Springs Michigan, and her cousins Lori Germain of Mineral, VA, Linda Merrit of Arizona and Steve Lund of Clearwater, FL.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Oliver and Dorothy Laurila of Superior, Wisconsin.
Kathy adored her children and very much enjoyed her role as mother and grandmother. Kathy studied at Wisconsin State University in Superior, Wisconsin. She then worked as a social worker for an adoption agency and for the State of Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She later worked in Admissions for the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale followed by working as a sales representative for Ameritech Yellow pages.
As a child Kathy enjoyed church activities, especially singing in the choir, she loved going to her grandfather’s farm and visiting with the animals. She loved her dogs, "Louie” and "George”, both Briard’s and her many pets that preceded them. She was fond of her Tennessee Walking horses and enjoyed showing them in the show ring. Kathy was a self-taught gourmet cook with tremendous talent and delighted in cooking for her family. Kathy liked being at home but also enjoyed traveling and was particularly fond of her memories of her Africa visits, and of her many road trips in sports cars with her husband. Kathy was a very kind and gentle person and will be sorely missed, especially her warm smile, affectionate nature, and kind heart.
Visitation for Kathy will be from 4 to 7 pm Monday November 21, 2022 at Stemm Lawson Peterson Funeral Home, 1541 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where funeral services will be 10 am Wednesday November 23 at the funeral home with Pastor Keith McFarren officiating. Kathy’s resting place will be the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Bristol, IN. following the funeral services.
