Kathleen E. Kohl, 74, formerly of Elkhart, died Thursday, October 15, 2009 at her residence in Valdosta, GA after a lengthy illness. She was born in Berne, IN on April 16, 1935 to the late Harry G. and Lillie M. (Kneuss) Augsburger. She married Maurice F. Kohl on October 8, 1983 in Elkhart. He preceded her in death along with 2 sons Donald R. Bowen and Maurice F. Kohl, II; a daughter Connie Sue Kohl; and a brother David Augsburger.
She is survived by 3 sons, Kevin D. Beers, David Wentland, and Lawrence (Peggy) Wentland, of Elkhart; 4 daughters, Judith A. Hutton of Valdosta, GA, Patricia M. (Andy) Norment of Elkhart, and Mary Ellen Wentland and Donna L. Kohl, both of Ivins, Utah; 29 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother Lyle (Phyllis) Augsburger of Ft. Wayne, IN; a sister-in-law Norma Augsburger of Berne, IN; and special friends William D. Blowers of Portland, IN and Michelle & Randy Stouder of Elkhart.
She enjoyed reading, playing card games and jigsaw puzzles, and listening to southern gospel, especially the Gaither’s. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She worked in Elkhart for 30 years as a bookkeeper for the mobile home industry and other businesses. She was a graduate of Geneva High School in Geneva, IN and attended Huntington College.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart. Rev. Dale Turner will officiate. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.
