Keith William Dougherty passed away on October 3rd in hospice care surrounded by his family. He was born on October 10, 1926 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Waldo and Ethel Dougherty.

Upon graduating from Pimento High School in Terre Haute in 1944, Keith served as an airman during World War II. He then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial and Physical Education from Indiana State in 1949 and later completed his Master’s in School Administration.

Keith married Mary Jacquelyn Bryant on July 18, 1953. Keith spent 41 years as a teacher, basketball coach, and administrator in the school systems of Lewisville, Hymera, Nappanee and Elkhart. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Elks, Lions Club, Elkhart County
Athletic Hall of Fame, and Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Since 1968, Keith was also a member of Trinity on Jackson.
Keith is survived by his children, Jan (Ron) Wenzel of Kirkland, WA, Kurt (Jill) Dougherty of Wolcottville, IN and Dru (Rick Abrams) Dougherty of Charlotte, NC and his sister Kathryn Dougherty Busby of Clearwater, FL. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Keith is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Jackie Dougherty, his
parents, and his grandson Mitchell Bryant Abrams.
A memorial gathering has been planned for Saturday, October 22nd at 10:00 am at Trinity on Jackson, 2715 E Jackson Blvd in Elkhart. Friends are invited to join the Dougherty family for a visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a service to follow officiated by Dr. Karen Koelsch.
