On the 17th day of February 2012, a bright light flickered at Simonton Lake, Elkhart. Larry D. Maier left the world to begin a new adventure with our Heavenly Father.
Larry was born Feb. 13, 1943 in Elkhart to Robert K. and Maxine (Elick) Maier Sr. and married Theresa R. Rogers on May 2, 1981. She survives with 2 daughters, Jodi (Mark) Freshour of Constantine, MI and Monica (Jason Moore) Glanders of Elkhart; 4 grandchildren, Alex and Olivia Freshour and Adam and Jacob Moore; nieces and nephews, Michael, Tami and Michelle Maier, Lori Wood, Ann Fletcher, Bret Robertson, Melissa Maeyans , and C.J. Maier; A brother, Robert K. (Michele) Maier Jr., of Ocala, FL, and 2 sisters, Judith K. (Leonard) Jones of Colorado Springs, CO and Melody Sue (Brent) Robertson of Elkhart. Larry was preceded in death by an infant son, Samuel Scott Maier and his parents.
Larry graduated from Elkhart High School in 1961 and attended I.U.S. B. and retired as a purchasing manager for various recreational vehicle companies after many years. After retirement he worked for Wal-Mart. He was a member of First Presbyterian BRIDGE worship and was a mentor for Big Brothers- Big Sisters. He enjoyed kayaking and loved his grandchildren, his lake home and lake community.
Visitation will be 4-7 pm Monday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart. A memorial service will be at 4 pm Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Nan Adams will officiate. Burial will be at Rice Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Presbyterian BRIDGE or Trinity Lutheran School, Elkhart.
