Dr. Larry D. Roberts, 75 of Bristol, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018 at the Elkhart Hospice House.
He was born on June 13, 1943 in Lebanon, Indiana to Donald F. and Octova Mae (Stewart) Roberts. He married Nancy K. Ray on April 11, 1965 in Indianapolis. She survives along with a son, Bart (Jennifer) Roberts of Granger a daughter, Laura (Adrian) Belovic of Plano, TX, 5 grand daughters, Caylin, Stella, Eleanor, Avery and Elise, a brother, Thomas (Gail) Roberts of Taylors, SC and a sister, Sue Ellen (Brian) Gross of Davenport, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Larry was loved by family members, friends, patients and all that were fortunate enough to know him. When he wasn’t surrounded by family, especially his 5 beloved grand-daughters, you could find him enjoying one of his many hobbies. He was an avid cyclist, woodworker, sailor, kayaker, hunter, fly fisherman, traveler, auto racing enthusiast, history buff, Cubs, Blackhawks and IU fan. Larry volunteered as a radio host for many years and had his own show called “The Back Porch” at WVPE and a program called “Down Home” at WGCS. He also enjoyed bluegrass and he even played the Banjo!
As an elder at Elkhart East Christian Church, Larry was passionate and instrumental in its growth in the area. Community service in particular, was a passion of his, where he served on numerous boards including the Elkhart Rotary, Lifeline Youth Ministries, Cancer Resources for Elkhart County and the Miles for Myeloma Foundation. As a medical professional, he served as President of the Indiana Association of Orthodontics and President of the North Central Dental Society.
Larry was an ultimate example of generosity where he was always willing to help anyone regardless of their situation. His kind heart drew many to him, but so did his witty sense of humor and loving personality.
