LaVern E. White, age 81, of Elkhart, passed away Monday July 26, 2021 at his home. He was born Nov. 1, 1939 in Elkhart to Charles A. and Muriel L. White. On August 29, 1957 in Bristol, he married Elener K. Grove who preceded him in death on June 15, 2003.
LaVern graduated from Elkhart High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the late 1950’s. He worked 15 years at Standard Oil and retired from Central Hardware after 25 years. He was an animal lover with his greatest passion for his Bulldogs. In his early years when he would get a break from work, he would head out west to do some prospecting, his greatest hobby. He formerly attended River Oaks Church and was a member of the U.S. Navy Institute.
Surviving are his 4 daughters, Kelly Jean (Jeff Waterman) White, Brenda M. (Harold) Weber, Lauria A. (Karl) Weber all of Elkhart and Teresa R. (Mike) Fritschi of Goshen, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, a brother Eudell A. White of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by sisters Sharon, Betty, Ramona White, Ellen (Willy) Honey and Shannon (Jim) Mathis.
Friends may visit with family from 4-8 pm on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where a funeral service will be at 11am on Friday, July 30, 2021 with visitation 1 hour before services. Rev. Bob Whittaker will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Bristol, IN.
