Leon B. Grindstaff, 80 of Edwardsburg, MI died Feb. 22, 2012 at his home after a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 1, 1932 in Doeville, TN to Sam and Vada (Proffett) Grindstaff and married Rosamund George on May 27, 1972. She survives with a son Kevin (Esther) Grindstaff of Vandalia, MI and 2 daughters Deborah Grindstaff of New Haven, IN and Jill Monson of Red Bluff, CA; grandchildren, Shana, Christopher, Meranda, Jessica, Brandon, Annie, Stacy and Jolene; Several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His loving dog Mindy also survives. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 1 sister.
Leon served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and retired as a foreman in steel fabrication. He owned the Tivoli Inn in Allegan, MI and most recently was a transporter for Gurley Leep of Mishawaka. He was a member of Bethel Tabernacle in Niles, MI and a lifetime member of the V.F. W. in Elkhart.
Visitation will be 4-8 pm Monday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart where funeral services will be at 10:30 am Tuesday. Pastor Matthew Bair will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola where military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy and D.A.V. 19.
