Lester A. Tavernier

June 19, 1924 — February 3, 2016

Lester A. Tavernier, 91 of White Pigeon, MI, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016 at the Elkhart Hospice House.

He was born June 19, 1924 in Elkhart to Clarence Tavernier and Viola Walker. He leaves behind his wife Marilyn, along with 2 daughters, Sandra (Floyd) Chesser of Buckeye, AZ and Vickie (Chet) Balcom of Union, MI; 1 son, Greg (Diane) Tavernier of Naples, FL; 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Joyce Tarabusie and Marjorie McGuire and 2 brothers, Joe and Clarence Tavernier.

Lester retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier after 26 years. He also was Vice-president of Champion Homes for several years. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the D.A.V. #19,the Elkhart Conservation Club and the Elk's Lodge.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart is entrusted with arrangements.
