Loren Darrell Wells, age 100, passed away at his home on Friday, September 18, 2020 surrounded by his family. Loren was born on February 28, 1920 in Huntertown, IN to David E. and Madge Wells. He married Jean Patrick of Elkhart on November 23, 1946 in Elkhart. After 60 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on March 20, 2007.
Loren was a railroad locomotive engineer for Conrail for 40 years, and he honorably served his country in the United States Army in the Company C 759th railroad operating battalion in France, Italy and North Africa during WWII. He was a member of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge #718 and the Moose Lodge #1787. He attended First United Methodist Church in Goshen. He lived in Elkhart while employed with Conrail and upon retirement he moved to Longview, Texas until 2016 when he moved back to the Goshen area to be with his children until his death.
Loren is survived by his children Patricia (Jack) Price of Kitty Hawk, NC, Nancy (Gregg) Fore of Middlebury, IN, David (Sharron) Wells of Iron Mountain, MI and Sharon (Jerry) Angel of Elkhart; 7 grandchildren, Karen (Jason) Parker, Sarah (Luke) Adams, Joshua (Jodi) Wells, Michelle (Tony) Born Fisher, Alan (Autumn) Fore, Bryan (Sarah) Fore and Debbie (Todd) Hartman; 8 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with family from 11am -1 pm on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where funeral services will be held at 1pm. Entombment will follow at Rice Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Loren to Goshen Home Care & Hospice, 1147 Professional Drive, Goshen, IN 46526.
