Louis G. Swift, 82, longtime Elkhart resident, passed away Friday June 30, 2017 at Golden Years Homestead in Ft. Wayne.
Louis was born Dec. 3, 1934 in Pleasant Lake, IN to Donald O. and Esther (Harpham) Swift.
On Dec. 12, 1955 in Detroit, he married Marie Rader who preceded him in death on Oct 19, 2014. Surviving are a daughter: Elizabeth (Ken) Dypkowski of Highland, IN; 3 sons: Greg (Julie) Swift of New Haven, Scott (Melinda) Swift of Cary, NC and Russell (Michelle) Swift of Murfreesboro, TN; 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, James and a sister, Wanda Lee Campbell of Rochester Hills, MI. He was preceded in death by a son David and a twin sister, Lois Sassanella.
Louis retired as sales manager for Grass Valley Group. He previously was the transmitter supervisor for WSJV TV and was then named Chief Engineer of WSJV TV and WTRC Radio. He was a lifelong member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church and was past-president, coach and umpire for Concord Little League. He served in the Indiana National Guard attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday, July 7th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where a service in his honor will begin at 11 am Saturday. Vince Turner will officiate.
