Lynda L. Read

Lynda L. Volheim Read, 73 of Elkhart, passed away Sunday March 4, 2012 at Rivercrest Specialty Hospital, Mishawaka.

She was born May 13, 1938 in Elkhart to James Luther and Dorothy (Smith) Hummer and married Richard A. Read on Dec. 9, 1983 in Elkhart. Her husband Richard survives along with 4 daughters, Teri Horberg of Tarpon Springs, FL, Toni Volheim of Elkhart, Barbara Read of Niles, MI and Michelle Read of Edwardsburg, MI; 2 sons B. Kim (Claudia) Volheim of Granger, IN and Kris (Cathy) Volheim of Edwardsburg, MI; 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers, Clarence Leroy (Raney) Hummer of Los Angeles, CA and James (Carol) Hummer of Cabot, AR.

Lynda was in secretarial, interior design and sales positions and retired from Community Occupational Medicine in sales. She was a 60 year member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and a 53 year member of the Alpha Pi chapter of Beta Chi National Sorority where she served as national president.

Visitation will be from 1-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart and a half hour prior to the 11 am service on Thursday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Elkhart. Dr. William Hemmig will officiate.
