Margaret McNitt, 94, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday Jan. 18, 2017 at Greenleaf Living Center,
Elkhart.
Margaret Hetman McNitt was born Nov. 9, 1922 in Rossford, Ohio, the eldest child of Frank Hetman and Elizabeth Hetman (née Szabo), who both had immigrated from Hungary.
After high school, Margaret worked in banking for several years before marrying her husband of 66 years, David B. McNitt. David passed away November 14, 2011. They were engaged during World War II and were married in 1946.
Margaret was a devoted mother who enjoyed many volunteer activities and homemaking. She later returned to the work force at ADEC, where she made lifelong friends. Margaret became a Master level player at Duplicate Bridge after retiring. She enjoyed travel, reading, sewing, and movies. She visited Europe twice, and many destinations in the U.S. Margaret was loved by all who met her.
Margaret is survived by her children David R. McNitt of Elkhart, Judith McNitt Mell (William Klempay) of Elkhart, and Marcia McNitt (Sheppard Sternthal) of West Bloomfield, MI. Margaret is also survived by two grandsons, Christopher Mell and Matthew Mell of Niles, MI, and two brothers, Frank (Elsie) Hetman of Perrysburg, OH, and Dr. Ronald (Gloria) Hetman of Centerville, OH, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother Robert and a sister Eleanor.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of the Greenleaf Health Campus for their tender care and dedication over the past 5 and a half years.
