Margaret I. Murray

July 24, 1923 — August 1, 2011

Margaret I. Murray, 88, of Elkhart, IN died August 1, 2011 at 8:50 pm at Elkhart General Hospital. A native of Gustavus, OH, she was born July 24, 1923. She graduated from Mineral Ridge High School in Mineral Ridge, OH. She then went to work at General Electric Light Bulb Factory in Warren, OH.

She married Charles L. Murray, August 23, 1945 in Apple Creek, Ohio. They moved to Elkhart in July of 1954. They are members of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Elkhart General Hospital Auxiliary for many years, and the Married Women’s Club of Elkhart. She enjoyed staying at home raising her family while her husband worked at CTS Corporation of Elkhart for 27 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, DeVona and husband Mark Benson of Pocatello Idaho and a son, Richard of Charlotte, North Carolina; 6 grandchildren Julie, Rachael, Scott, Nicholas, Benjamin and Kaitlyn; 3 great-grandchildren; John (Mac), Alexander (Charlie), Maxine; and her beloved niece Cheryl and her husband James Tomlinson. She also leaves behind many wonderful extended family and friends including those that she met during her many travels to Scandinavia, Europe and Asia.

Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of Elkhart County because of her love for her grand dog “Toby”. She welcomed any animals that came to her house.

Visitation is from 5-7 pm Thursday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart where services will be held at 1 pm Friday. Pastor Nan Adams will officiate. Private entombment will follow at Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, Rice Cemetery.
