Marilyn K. Bunn of Elkhart, IN, known to her friends and family as Kay, was born July 13,1936 in Britton, SD to John and Mabel Frey.
She graduated from Amherst High School in SD, and then from Northern State teacher’s college in 1959. She married Rollie Bunn that same summer and went on to have two children, Terry and Tracey. Kay taught elementary school for 29 years in the Concord Community Schools. She continued her education receiving her master’s degree and Principal’s license. She then went on to spend the last 7 years of her career as the principal at Concord Ox Bow. Kay received recognition from her university, city and county for her contributions to youth and education. After retirement in 1997, Kay and Rollie enjoyed RV traveling and spending winters in Texas and Arizona. She loved traveling, playing cards and games with her grandkids, and bridge with her friends. In her spare time, she loved gardening, scrapbooking and taking art classes.
Kay passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Rollie, one son, Terry (Kimberly) Bunn of Baytown, TX. One daughter Tracey (Steve) Boyer, of Bristol, IN. And 5 grandsons, who were the light of her life, Parker and Hunter Bunn, and Jake, Mitchell and Will Boyer. She is also survived by one brother, Dennis (Rhonda) Frey; and Sisters-in-law, Janet Frey and Claudia Frey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Neil Frey, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lyle and Colleen Bunn.
Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 Funeral services will be at 11am, Friday September 20, 2024 at Faith United Methodist Church, 22045 CR 18, Goshen, IN 46528 where visitation will be one hour before funeral services. Pastor John Hogsett will officiate.
