Martha E. Cook

Martha E. Cook, 94 of Elkhart, passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2015 at The Maples at Waterford, Goshen.

She was born March 8, 1921 in Nappanee to Mervin and Eva (Anglemyer) Wagner. She married Bert R. Cook on Feb. 17, 1946 in Nappanee. He died on April 1, 1999. Surviving is a son, Duane E. Cook of Goshen; 2 daughters, Carolee J. (Douglas) Rhude of Elkhart and Betty E. (Patrick) McDowell of Goshen; Daughter-in-law, Rachel (Cook) Korody of Granger; 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Lois Miller of Goshen and Arlene Mohler of Syracuse. She was preceded in death by a son, Weldon R. Cook, 3 brothers, Donald, Francis and Lamar Wagner and her parents.

Martha retired from Concord Community Schools in the cafeteria and also had worked as a telephone operator in Nappanee and Dunlap. She was a member of Liberty Community Church, Goshen; Concord Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary; Elkhart Campers; Fairview Grange; Good Sam Club; Traveling Grangers; a 35 year 4-H adult leader and the Elkhart County Homemaker’s Assn.

Visitation for Martha will be from 5-8 PM Tuesday, Aug. 25th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home and an hour prior to the 10:30 am service on Wednesday, Aug. 26th at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Hugs Project, c/o River Oaks Community Church or to Liberty Community Church, Goshen.
