Martha M. Hoover

Martha M. Hoover, 97, of Elkhart, passed away January 26, 2009 at her home.

She was born September 13, 1911 in Petoskey, Michigan to Ervin and Lydia (Weaver) Sala and married Frank I. Hoover on April 28, 1927. He died April 13, 1978. Surviving are 2 daughters, Bonnie Hoover and Betty(Rex)Berger both of Elkhart, 2 granddaughters, Cindy Mills (Berger) and Dianna Hoover and 3 great-grandchildren. A son, Frank Max Hoover and 3 sisters, Laura Ritchie, Cora Rogers and Ruth Long all preceded in death.

Mrs. Hoover worked as an assembler for 5 years for Excel Corp. She then was a beautician and owned Martha's Beauty Shop for 20 years. She was a member of the Church of God; Women of the Moose; AARP; Friendly Pioneers and Harvest Basket. She enjoyed fishing and mushrooming. She was the 1950 state winner of hair design for the Indiana Hairdressers and cosmetologists. She graduated from Goshen High School and Vogue Beauty College in South Bend.

Friends may call from 2-4 Thursday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where services will be at 1 pm Friday. Pastor Shannon Bishop will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be given to the charity of donor's choice.
