Mary Jacquelyn (Bryant) Dougherty

Mary Jacquelyn Bryant Dougherty, age 90, of Elkhart passed away on January 26, 2022. Jacquelyn was born on October 2, 1931 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Ralph Earl Bryant and Mabel Jean Wilfong Bryant. Jacquelyn graduated from Wiley High School in Terre Haute in 1949 and continued her education at Indiana State University where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy in 1953. She married her husband Keith William Dougherty, in Terre Haute in 1953. She later completed her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Indiana University South Bend in 1977. Jacquelyn was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She taught for many years in the school systems in Seymour, Sullivan, Nappanee and Elkhart.

Jacquelyn is survived by her husband of 68 years and their children Jan (Ron) Wenzel of Kirkland, WA., Kurt (Jill) Dougherty of Wolcottville, IN and Dru (Rick Abrams) Dougherty of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jacquelyn was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ralph Earl Bryant along with a grandson Mitchell Bryant Abrams.

A memorial gathering has been planned for Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Trinity on Jackson, 2715 East Jackson Blvd, Elkhart, IN 46516. Friends are invited to join the Dougherty family for visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 pm with a service to follow officiated by Dr. Karen Koelsch in the church chapel.
