Mary Helen Whalen, 91, of Bristol, Indiana, passed away at home on May 8, 2019 in the comforting presence of her family. She was born June 28, 1927 in Elkhart to Virgil Ray and Nina (Reynolds) Davy, and married Malcolm “Mac” Whalen on Dec. 2, 1950. She is survived by four daughters, Karen (Ron) Gouker of Elkhart, Dottie (Tom) Bishop of Glendale, Arizona, Nancy (Gary) Andrews of Bristol, Jeannie (George) Berkshire of Elkhart and one son, Dennis (Jill) Whalen of Bedford, Indiana, as well as 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. A sister, Roberta (Ronald) Breniser of Elkhart and many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 sisters, Laura Billey, Bernice Krazit and a grandson, Nicholas Shelt.
Mary was a registered nurse and retired in 1989 from Elkhart General Hospital. Prior to her illness she was an active member of Grace Bible Church, remembered for her faithfulness to our Lord and the church.
Visitation will be from 9-10 am on Saturday, May 11th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd, Elkhart, IN. where her funeral service will commence at 10 am. Interment will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, following the funeral.
