Merritt "Mike" M. Miller

Merritt M. “Mike” Miller, 90 of Middlebury, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016 at the Elkhart Hospice House.

He was born Jan. 18, 1926 in White Cloud, MI to Macey N. and Helen B. (Olmstead) Miller. He married Arline Chaddock on July 23, 1949 in Fremont, MI. He is survived by his wife, Arline Miller of Middlebury; 2 daughters, Sharon (Buford) Leer of Middlebury and Susan McMullan of Fishers, IN; 3 grandchildren, Lori (Ben) Smith, Sara Leer and Andrew (Candace) McMullan and 11 great-grandchildren, Christopher Chase Plank, Dakota Robinson, Ben Szymarek, Rebecca Wright, Noah Valdez, Danielle Wright, Nathaniel Wright, Brian Wright, Madelyn Smith, Evelyn McMullan and Finley McMullan. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Phillip McMullan and a grandson, Brian McMullan.

Mike served with the U.S. Navy in World War II and Korea. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and was an electrical engineer for Bendix Corp. and Magnavox Corp. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Elkhart and Bethel United Methodist Church in Ft. Wayne. He was a member of the United States Power Squadron and was an avid model railroader. He enjoyed doing Civil War re-enactments and camping and boating.

Family and friends may visit from 2-5 pm Saturday, Dec. 3rd at the Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart, where military honors will be rendered.
Memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer’s Association. The family would like to thank Beacon Home Healthcare, Elkhart Hospice House and Wynona Dennis, his private duty nurse for their wonderful care of Mike.
