Michael Dean Logan, 60, of Elkhart passed away on Wednesday March 13, 2024. Mike was born on January 6, 1964, in Elkhart, IN to Larry L. and Jacqueline G. Logan. He married Karin (Metcalf) on August 4, 1990, at Jamestown United Methodist Church in Jimtown, IN.
Mike graduated from Elkhart Central High School, class of 1982. Mike received a scholarship from Butler University for football, where he was a 2-year letter winner. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education, and while there he was also a proud member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Mike then completed his master’s degree from Olivet. Mike started his teaching career at Northridge High School in 1987. During his time at Northridge, Mike was a part of both the baseball and football programs, in many different roles. To this day, he is still the winningest baseball coach in program history. After 34 years at Northridge, Mike served as a substitute teacher at both Goshen and Elkhart Community Schools. Mike loved spending his summers fishing, especially at Bear Lake in Northern Michigan. Mike loved to spend time with his friends and family, and he never missed going to his son’s games. His family will remember him as a loving husband, father, and an all-around family man.
Mike is survived by his wife of 34 years Karin Logan; their sons Brock (Lexi) Logan of South Bend, IN and Nicholas Logan of Elkhart, IN; his sisters Lorie (Michael) Harrison of Elkhart, IN and Christine Miles of Bristol, IN; and of course, his loyal retriever, Nala. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Larry and Jacqueline Logan and his brother-in-law Michael Miles.
Visitation will be from 4-7pm on Wednesday March 20, 2024, at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514. Funeral services will at 11:30am on Thursday March 21, 2024, with visitation one hour before funeral services at the funeral home. Pastor Fred Stayton will officiate. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, IN. We ask that any memorial donations in memory of Mike may be made to your local Boys and Girls Club.
