Millie (Peterson) Richmond

Millie C. (Peterson) Richmond, 93 of Elkhart, passed away on Monday December 25, 2023 surrounded by her family at home. She was born May 20, 1930 in Elkhart, Indiana to Fred F. and Vera E. (Gardner) Rhoads.  Millie married Richard “Swede” Peterson May 28, 1949 at Simpson Methodist Church in Elkhart. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2001. She married Reginald “Bud” Richmond on October 19, 2008 in Fort. Lauderdale, Florida.

Millie graduated from Elkhart High School in the class of 1948. She and her husband are members of Trinity on Jackson Church. She retired from Elkhart General Hospital after 25 years of service as a certified surgical technician. After retirement she enjoyed working at the 812 Consignment Shop.  While in High School, she was a member of the band where she played the bassoon. She also played the organ and was very musically talented. She loved gardening and her flowers. She learned to crochet, needlepoint and macrame. Bud and Mil loved to dance, enjoyed wintering in Florida and traveled to Hawaii, Alaska and the Caribbean.

Millie is survived by her husband of 15 years, Bud Richmond; her children Steve (Luanne) Peterson, Cathy (Ron) Blanchard, and Mike (Dawn) Peterson; step-children Mike (Louise) Richmond,  Bill  (Mary Corl) Richmond and Heidi (Jeff) Payne; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Millie was preceded in death by her brother, Charles F. Rhoads and her parents.

Visitation will be 10am -12pm on Friday December 29, 2023 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, Indiana 46514.Funeral services will follow at 12pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.
