Norman L. Johnson, 99, of South Bend, formerly of Elkhart, passed away October 27, 2013 at Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend.
He was born October 4, 1914 in South Bend to Harold C. and Ethel (Baker) Johnson. He married Alene E. Russell on June 27, 1936 in South Bend. She died on August 31, 2005. Surviving are a great-niece and a great-great niece both of Elkhart; 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Ronald and Norman Johnson Jr., 2 brothers, Everett and Carl Johnson and a great-grandson, Justin Knapp.
Mr. Johnson was employed in the Marine and RV Industry. He was a manufacturers representative until the age of 84. He was instrumental in constructing a special houseboat for Johns Hopkins University to be used to track satellites at Cape Canaveral, Florida. He enjoyed his family, grandchildren, flowers, fishing and boating.
Family and friends may call for 2 hours prior to the 1 pm service on Thursday, October 31st at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral & Cremation Center, Elkhart. Reverend Greg Henry will officiate. Entombment will follow at Chapel of Memories, Rice Cemetery.
